Car Registration
New Registration refers to the registration of automobiles manufactured and sold at home and abroad by the relevant authorities
in accordance with Articles 8, 9, and 84 of the Automobile Management Act; Article 18 of the Registration Decree; and Article 27 of the Registration Regulations.
Required Documents
For Domestically Manufactured Automobiles
- New Registration Application Form (Prescribed Form)
- Automobile Manufacture Document
- Proof of Insurance
- Temporary Operation License Plates (Front, Back), Temporary Operation Permit (once permission has been granted)
- Tax Invoice
- Identification Card (if the application is submitted by an agent, a power of attorney stamped with the owner's registered seal and the agent's ID are required)
For Imported Automobiles

Reference
- 1. Acquisition tax shall be paid within 30 days of the automobile's acquisition. In case of failure to pay the tax within the specified period, a 20% penalty will be added, and 3/10,000 will be added as additional tax per day thereafter.
- 2. In issuing the automobile's registration number, owners may choose between two given numbers or may designate odd or even numbers as the last number.
- 3. In the case of exceeding the temporary operation permit (New Registration: 10 days), a 1 million won fine will be levied.

Scrapped Automobile Cancellation Registration refers to the cancellation registration of scrapped automobiles by the relevant authorities in
accordance with Articles 13 and 14 of the Automobile Management Act; Article 31 of the Registration Decree; and Article 37 of the Registration Regulation.

Submission of Cancellation Registration Documents → Document Screening by Public Officials → Payment of Registration Tax and Purchase of Certificate Stamp →

Reference
- 1. Dumping your automobile is in violation of the law, and you will be sentenced to 1 year (maximum) in prison or fined up to 3 million won. In case the automobile registration is not cancelled, you will suffer financial losses, such as a fine, that will be imposed due to tax payment delinquency and the absence of liability insurance.
- 2. In case the cancellation registration application period (1 month from the day of scrapping) is exceeded, a 500,000 won fine will be levied.
