An international game exhibition, "G-STAR 2010," will be held from November 18 to 21 at BEXCO in Busan. The event is co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Busan Metropolitan City and arranged by the Korea Creative Content Agency and Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency.
More than 300 game companies from 22 countries, including Sony Computer Entertainment and Blizzard Entertainment, will participate in the exhibition, along with major Korean game companies such as NHN, NCsoft and NEXON. The exhibit will highlight game devices, along with computer, mobile, video, arcade, board and educational games.
This year's exhibition will unveil more new games than ever. One of the main sponsors, NHN’s Hangame, will run several booths and introduce three new games: TERA, Metro Conflict, and Kingdom Under Fire II. Another Korean game company, NCsoft, will host several events to introduce its new games, including "Blade & Soul" and "Lineage II: the Chaotic Throne." Blizzard Entertainment, will host demonstrations of its new games, "World of Warcraft: Cataclysm" and "Diablo III." It will also host a Starcraft II competition for 16 of Korea’s best known pro gamers, including Lee Yun-yeol and Lim Yo-hwan.
The event will also feature several Korean game and system premiers, such as a 3-D version of Nexon’s popular online game, "MapleStory," and "Gears of War III" for Microsoft Xbox 360. Sony will also bring its Playstation Move to Korea for the first time.
Eight Social Network Game (SNG) companies will take part in the event, including Zynga, Playfish, and Playdom, whose CEOs will give a presentation on Nov. 19. These games, which originated on Social Network Services (SNS) like Facebook and Myspace, have become a popular new mode of play.
G-STAR will also feature a job fair for people looking for opportunities to work in the field. NCsoft and MGame will hold events for potential employees on Nov. 19, including job interviews. Interested parties should register for the event through the G-STAR website.
G-STAR will also host the 2nd Korea-China Game Culture Festival from Nov. 18-22. It features events like a Korea-China Game Music Festival, Korea-China Game Character Fashion Show, and an e-Sports tournament. There will also be an International conference for content creators, ICON2010, from Nov 18-20. Meanwhile, the Korea Game Awards are scheduled for Nov. 17.
According to the Korea Creative Content Agency, the exhibition saw 240 thousand visitors last year, and hopes to top that number this year. "As this year's exhibition is one of the biggest ever, we hope G-STAR will soon become one of the world’s leading game exhibitions," officials said.
