On
every Culture Day of the month (last Wednesday of the month), the Busan
National Gugak Center will hold an OPEN HOUSE which will allow the public to
tour the Busan National Gugak Center, to experience gugak (Korean traditional
music) and traditional costumes, as well as watch art group rehearsals. It aims
to help people understand traditional art.
First,
OPEN HOUSE visitors will tour an outdoor Korean garden and stage, theater
facilities (Yeonak-dang, Yeji-dang), and stage equipment. The Busan National
Gugak Center was designed by Ryu Choon-soo, a prominent Korean architect, and
features a motif of the Muryangsujeon Hall of Buseoksa Temple made in the
Goryeo Dynasty.
A
promotion video for the Busan National Gugak Center will be screened after a
tour of the theaters. Visitors can watch gugak art groups practice dance and
music, try on traditional costumes and use props used in performances while
having a photo taken. Participants will also have a chance to learn styles of Korean
vocal music such as pansori and jeongga. Center souvenirs will be provided to
participants after completing a satisfaction survey.
The
OPEN HOUSE event will be held every last Wednesday of the month from February
to December from 2 pm – 4 pm. The first
20 applicants by phone reservation can visit the OPEN HOUSE free of charge. For
more information, please call the center at (051)811-0047.
