□ As of 2024, the cumulative participant-days in the ‘Busan Workation Project,’ primarily implemented in areas suffering from dwindling population loss*, have surpassed 10,000.
*Areas facing population extinction (Dong-gu, Yeongdo-gu, Seo-gu), areas of population concern (Jung-gu, Geumjeong-gu)
○ Participant-days for workations in Busan reached approximately 6,900 in 2024—more than double the 3,300 recorded in 2023, demonstrating remarkable growth.
○ With various tourism products and well-equipped workspaces, Busan has become an ideal destination for over 1,100 corporate employees hoping to break away from regular routines, recharge, and cooperate on team projects, as well as domestic and foreign freelancers looking to balance work and leisure while drawing creative inspiration from unfamiliar environments.
□ Strategic promotion has driven increased participation and satisfaction.
○ Throughout the past year, efforts were made to boost Busan’s visibility through briefings for Seoul Capital Area-based companies, collaborations with SME workation programs in Seoul, and both online and offline campaigns.
○ To capture international demand, marketing activities were also conducted at international forums and tourism fairs. In September 2024, the GLOBAL BUSAN WORKATION with Hoppin successfully gathered 81 attendees from overseas for a month-long workation stay in Busan, complete with networking efforts.
According to a survey, they highly valued the city’s affordability, transportation infrastructure, and the work environment, praising Busan as one of the best cities for digital nomads worldwide.
□ Moving forward, we plan to develop differentiated content and strengthen the city’s workation initiatives.
○ In 2025, with the goal of elevating Busan Workation as a globally recognized brand, the city will host a broad range of events and expand international promotional endeavors.
○ In addition to the existing hub and satellite centers, two new satellite centers* will be operational from February, bringing the total to six specialized workspaces.
* Lavalse Hotel Lounge (Yeongdo-gu), Grab the Ocean Songdo (Seo-gu)
○ To better accommodate global workationers and Korean freelancers working across time zones, we will arrange 24-hour workspaces. Additionally, we will kick off the ‘Workation with Pet’ experience in affiliation with pet-friendly lodgings and a family-friendly model with daycare services for working parents.
○ The ‘Sea LAB in BUSAN’ project, initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2024, will continue in Haeundae-gu—outside the designated declining population areas—until March 2025.
