□ Busan Metropolitan City has released the 2025 International Student Recruitment & Support Initiatives, a comprehensive one-stop system crafted to attract students from diverse global backgrounds and provide essential assistance for their transition and academic and career exploration in Busan.
□ In line with the vision, ‘Busan: A Premier Study Abroad Destination and Global Hub City,’ we are committed to improving international students’ living conditions and forging a robust support system. Our four-phase implementation strategy—attraction, recruitment, talent development, and talent utilization—is backed by 13 action plans.
□ This year, we aim to greet 18,000 international students, with 15% coming from STEM fields, and project a 27% visa conversion rate for job seekers and employees. To further leverage student retention, we will introduce new support measures for entrepreneurship, employment, and Korean language learning.
○ Students can access career counseling at the Busan Global City Foundation. We will also oversee workforce supply and demand, address job mismatches related to visa constraints, organize job fairs and employment and entrepreneurship lectures, as well as offer internship opportunities.
○ The Busan Global City Foundation, designated in 2024 as a Korean language hub under the name ‘Busan Hangul Institution’, will run Korean language and culture programs.
□ We will take a holistic approach to overseas students through joint recruitment processes and services.
○ In collaboration with local schools, we will hold study-abroad information sessions in Japan between April and May and in China, Mongolia, and Central Asia in September. Additionally, in July, we will invite education officials from previously visited countries to consolidate networking.
○ Incoming students will receive welcome packages, and orientation videos will be sent to colleges. Furthermore, the Busan International Student Supporter Group, consisting of 40 international students, will promote Busan and campus life while engaging in social contribution activities.
□ In February, we will convene the Busan International Student Recruitment Support Meeting, bringing together college representatives to outline our initiatives.
○ Topics will include regional visas, government policies for international students, and feedback from participating institutions.
