Busan Global City Foundation Designated as Korean Language Hub, ‘Busan Hangul Institution’

□ Busan Metropolitan City held a sign unveiling ceremony for Busan Hangul Institution at the Busan Global City Foundation, on December 12th, 2024 at 15:00.

□ As a pivotal part of the ‘Operations of Regional Korean Language Centers’ under the Ministry of Education's 'Study Korea 300K Project,' which aims to enhance the competitiveness of international students, the city of Busan has chosen the Busan Global City Foundation's International Student Support Institute as Busan’s new Korean language learning hub and will be running it on a trial basis in 2025.

○ Currently, international students pursuing language training or academic degrees face challenges due to the lack of comprehensive language and culture education systems at two- or three-year colleges, as well as smaller institutions with limited infrastructure and resources.

○ In response, the Ministry of Education proposed establishing a Korean language hub in the RISE pilot area, which we have named 'Busan Hangul Institution.' We will launch quality language programs with a budget of 60 million won in 2025.

□ Busan Hangul Institution will give international students personalized Korean language learning, mentorship, and cultural exploration.

○ Students will receive guidance on studying abroad, writing research papers and resumes, and career-focused language training. They will also be paired with student mentors from Korean colleges.

○ Busan Hangul Institution is committed to helping international students improve their Korean language skills. Its offerings will include not only classes tailored to different fluency levels and types, such as Korean language proficiency test preparation and speaking practice, but also cultural opportunities.

○ Additionally, we plan to partner with local schools and expand the number of regional Korean language centers.

□ Since 2006, the Busan Global City Foundation has conducted free Korean language courses for resident aliens and has consistently earned a satisfaction rating of 95% or higher from participants. This success is attributed to its exceptional instructors and systematic management.

○ Busan has applied for the Ministry of Justice's Social Integration Program. If selected, the city will be able to broaden the scope of its Korean language services and further promote community cohesion.
