□ Busan Metropolitan City confirmed on December 2nd, 2024 at 2pm in the press conference room on the ninth floor of Busan City Hall that it will build a cultural IP and video-based complex at the Bukhang Phase 1 Landmark Site in the Maritime Cultural District. The projected cost is 4.5 trillion won, primarily funded from foreign capital.
○ Located in the heart of the Maritime Cultural District in the Bukhang Redevelopment Zone, the Bukhang Landmark Site is a special planning area that combines public and private properties, occupying 113,285.6 square meters.
○ Although the Busan Port Authority conducted a recruitment effort to attract business operators in 2023 and 2024, both were unsuccessful as there was only a sole bidder in the first round and no bid in the second round.
□ Rising from the Bukhang Phase 1 Landmark Site in the Maritime Cultural District, Busan Landmark Tower (tentative name) will be a marvel to behold. With a gross floor area of 1.02 million square meters, it will be a one-of-a-kind composition of three edifices, each with 88 floors above the ground and four basement levels. The carefully crafted design will be harmonized with the surrounding urban and natural landscapes. The sky bridges connecting the buildings will create a unique cityscape view. Construction work will be undertaken by the Daewoo Engineering & Construction Consortium.
□ Samsung Electronics will adorn the building exterior with an expansive media facade, offering a glimpse of a vision for the future of architecture where advanced information technology and art converge. The green spaces surrounding Busan Landmark Tower will be open to the public, inviting all ages to immerse themselves in the marine ambiance of the Port of Busan and enjoy leisure activities. This inclusive approach will genuinely make Busan Landmark Tower an iconic landmark of Busan.
○ The main facilities will include a hotel with over 2,000 guestrooms; a healthcare center dedicated to artificial intelligence by Samsung and Qualcomm, an American semiconductor manufacturer; a large-scale arena that can be synergized with the nearby Opera House; a spacious mall, theme park, and cultural and exhibition venue that hold out the promise of revitalizing the old downtown area through the influx of youths. The location will also create Sky Park, a perfect spot for relishing various activities and offering a stunning view of the city center and ocean.
□ The city and the Bukhang Landmark Consortium (tentative name) will obtain site ownership and necessary permits in the first half of 2025 and break ground in 2026. Busan Landmark Tower is scheduled for completion in 2030.
