□ The direct route will connect Busan to Bali four times a week, beginning on October 30th, 2024.
○ Gimhae International Airport will be the first airport outside of the Seoul Capital Area that offers a long-haul flight covering a distance of more than 5,000 kilometers.
○ The new Busan-Bali route is anticipated to reduce the inconvenience of transfers at Incheon or at other airports as well as accelerate inbound tourism from Indonesia and spur the local economy.
□ Before the meeting between Korea and Indonesia was convened earlier this year, the city of Busan had suggested the expansion of the traffic rights to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport. The city’s partnership with the Korea Airports Corporation and airlines enabled Busan to add routes to Bali and Jakarta.
* Busan-Jakarta: 7 times weekly (Air Busan: 3, Jin Air: 4), Busan-Bali (Air Busan: 4 times weekly)
□ Based on the operations of the Busan-Bali flight, the city plans to open further long-distance services in line with the position of Busan as a global gateway in the southern region of Korea.
○ Busan has already obtained the traffic rights bound for Helsinki and Warsaw. Discussions with Korean and overseas carriers concerning nonstop routes to these two destinations and the United States are actively underway.
