□ Busan Metropolitan City took the 67th spot in the 100 Best Cities to Live, Work, and Visit put out by Resonance, a global consulting firm.
○ The ranking can be found in Resonance’s 2024 World's Best Cities Report, which Forbes, an American business magazine, recently reported on.
○ The ten highest ranked cities include: London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Singapore, Dubai, San Francisco, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Seoul. Both Seoul and Busan have the honor to be on this year’s Best Cities list.
○ Busan is proudly on par with other notable Asian cities, such as Beijing (No. 18), Taipei (No. 42), and Osaka (No. 45).
□ The decision was based on a wide range of factors, such as the economy, culture, and housing conditions. Busan was praised for its blend of natural beauty and urban infrastructure.
○ Dubbed the ‘Miami of South Korea’, Busan was introduced as a place where local and overseas visitors can unwind and where a plethora of events and cultural activities add to the city's allure.
○ The report also underscores Busan’s pivotal role in the global economy as home to the world's fourth-largest container port and destination for ‘bleisure travel’, which combines business and leisure.
□ According to the Busan Tourism Organization, the first half of 2024 saw a significant increase in international tourist arrivals, reaching 90% of the pre-pandemic levels from 2019. This promising trend is expected to continue in the second half of the year.
○ ‘The World-famous Tourism City Project’, which commenced in 2021 and focuses on enhancing the city’s reputation, has already borne fruit. Its diverse initiatives have successfully attracted travelers to the city.
○ Busan’s unique appeal has not gone unnoticed. It shared top spot in the 2023 Popular International Travel Destination by Trip.com, a leading travel service provider, and was the only Asian destination to be selected by National Geographic for the 25 Breathtaking Places and Experiences for 2023. In June 2024, the New York Times also included Busan in the five cities with great beaches.
□ Mayor Park Heong-joon said, “Domestic and foreign establishments have begun appreciating our living and business environments and tourism appeal. We will continue to create various types of tourism content that people around the world can enjoy. With our ongoing efforts, I believe we will be able to turn Busan into a global travel hub.”
