□ The city of Busan has announced that it will host the 2024 Busan Wheat Festival – A Utopia for People Fascinated with Foods Made from Wheat in and around auto camping grounds and the lotus field at Hwamyeong Eco Park from June 22 to June 23.
○ The festival aims to help visitors more diversely and deeply experience popular foods made from wheat, one of the world’s top three food crops.
○ The city is highlighting the western Busan region by combining the new local festival with the recently trendy gourmet tourism based on the history of Gupo in Buk-gu, which had been a major wheat collection and distribution center since the Korean War.
○ “The Utopia of People Fascinated with Foods Made from Wheat” is a sub-theme of the Busan Wheat Festival. It captures the attention of attendees by briefly summarizing and expressing the purpose of the event and the festival arena.
□ The festival is anticipated to be a rich cultural experience through various programs, such as a talk concert and hands-on experiences, as well as connected events centered on a food lounge where visitors can eat and enjoy wheat-based foods.
□ Additionally, select wheat food shops, where visitors can eat foods mainly made from wheat, will be promoted by making the Hwamyeong Auto Camping Ground a wheat lounge. Also, there will be the “Wheat & With Concert”, in which diverse themes related to wheat and humans will be presented.
□ At the Hwamyeong Eco Park lotus field a picnic lounge and a street food lounge will be set up, and a local commercial program will run against the backdrop of the lotus wetland.
○ While the wheat lounge is a space for those who are fascinated with foods made from wheat and its relevant history, the picnic lounge is a space where people can approach wheat a bit more lightly. The picnic lounge will have a wheat-related exhibition, hands-on experience, market, street performances, and food trucks. The street food lounge will be packed with food trucks, so visitors can spend a relaxing time enjoying general foods as well as foods made from wheat.
○ Various hands-on experience programs will be offered, including a Korean wheat exhibition program, Korean wheat lectures, and cookie-making with wheat, all run by the Korea Advanced Food Research Institute. Visitors can also enjoy local programs, such as water leisure sports, the Nakdonggang River Eco Tour Cruise, and a noodle-making experience connected with the Gupo Noodles Experience Center.
□ Pre-orders and self-ordering using the onsite QR code are available at the festival.
○ Some food items will be sold in limited quantities in the select wheat food shops. Packaged products will also be offered for enjoyment through pre-orders only, including diverse foods from Michelin-starred fine restaurants and local must-visit restaurants. Visitors can enjoy the convenience of the festival where they can order foods using QR codes and then pick up their food after receiving a notification.
