Busan ranked an impressive 6th in Asia in the Global Liveability Index 2023, run by the British economy analysis agency EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit).

The report has calculated liveability by evaluating stability, medical services, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure for more than 70 years.

Busan made an improvement in its overall evaluation by receiving about 70 points last year and gaining a favorable review this year with well over 80 points, thus making a quantum jump to rank an impressive 6th in Asia. * EIU’s evaluation of happiest cities in Asia: Osaka (1st), Tokyo (2nd), Singapore (3rd), Seoul (4th), Hong Kong (5th), and Busan (6th)

Busan’s results from leading, global brand consulting companies are improving positively. Therefore, the elevated external status and Busan’s charms as a green smart city and one of Asia’s happiest cities are being recognized around the world.

The Mayor of Busan Park Heong-joon pledged to make Busan one of Asia’s top 10 happiest cities during his mayoral election campaign in June 2022. He presented it as a policy goal at the time of his inauguration as the eighth mayor of Busan to be elected by popular vote. Mayor Park said, “We will not be satisfied with the 6th ranking of the best city to live in Asia, and we will reinforce Busan’s city brand and competitiveness to make them world-class by fully utilizing Busan’s potential.” He added, “To be born again as a globally-attractive city gaining attention domestically and internationally, we will endeavor to make Busan a place where you want to live in again and again through the improvement of our citizens’ quality of life.”
