The city of Busan revealed that it was selected to host NURETH-21 (International Meeting on Nuclear Reactor Thermal Hydraulics-21) organized by the American Nuclear Society (ANS).
The NURETH-21 is the world’s largest academic forum in terms of scale and prestige. Over 1,000 eminent nuclear power scholars will attend, along with many industry professionals. The first forum was held in 1980.
NURETH-21 will be held at Busan’s BEXCO from August 31 to September 5, 2025. This will mark the second time the event is hosted in Korea in 22 years, following Seoul’s event in 2003. The official announcement of the host venue is scheduled to be made at NURETH-20 in Washington D.C., U.S., this August.
Busan plans to vigorously support local companies’ entry into international markets by publicizing Korea’s innovative and excellent technological capabilities, including the southeast regional supply chain for nuclear power parts and its nuclear power industry ecosystem in diverse fields, such as safe industrial parts. The event is also expected to positively impact the city’s bid for the World Expo 2030 by enhancing Busan’s brand status.
Busan’s Mayor, Park Heong-joon, remarked, “I warmly welcome the hosting of the NURETH-21 in Busan. Starting with the hosting of the forum, we will make our utmost efforts for Busan to become an international hub city leading innovative nuclear power technology research, including SMRs, nuclear power plant dismantling technology, and carbon-free energy (CF 100).”
