- The No. 5 Honorary Expo Ambassador goes into action to move the hearts of future generations worldwide.
Busan appoints “Pinkfong Baby Shark” as an Honorary Ambassador for Busan’s Bid for the 2030 World Expo 2030
The Pinkfong Baby Shark (hereinafter “Baby Shark”), global intellectual property (IP) as popular as BTS with all ages around the world, will go into action as the No. 5 Honorary Ambassador in an effort to attract the 2030 World Expo to Busan.
The city of Busan announced on March 29 that it has appointed the globally-beloved mascot, Baby Shark, as an honorary ambassador to attract the Expo to Busan.
The commissioning of the honorary ambassador is the fifth such appointment to attract the Expo to Busan, following actor Lee Jung-jae, the virtual human ROZY, the boy band BTS, and soprano Jo Su-mi.
The Pinkfong Company’s Baby Shark is a leading content IP in Korea. Since Baby Shark was first introduced on YouTube in 2016 with the highly addictive song whose chorus starts with “Ttrooroo Ttroo ~,” Baby Shark has become enormously loved and supported by fans the world over.
As evidence of this, the view count on Baby Shark’s gymnastics YouTube video quickly exceeded 8 billion, equal to the total world population. It now stands at 12.5 billion views and ranks No. 1 in global YouTube video views.
The commissioning of the honorary ambassador is a follow-up action of the business agreement between Busan and The Pinkfong Company to promote Baby Shark’s Hometown Project. Through the agreement, both parties have set Baby Shark’s hometown as Busan, and have been promoting the following joint collaboration businesses: story-telling construction, city branding, tourism PR marketing, tourism infrastructure construction, and the attraction of the 2030 World Expo to Busan.
Busan commissioned Baby Shark as an honorary ambassador on March 29. It has released a new teaser video of Baby Shark that heralds the upcoming plethora of activities as an honorary ambassador in the bid for the Expo in Busan. The teaser video aims to raise expectations for the main video, which has been produced to publicize the 2030 World Expo in Busan. The main video will be released in April, and it will contain Baby Shark’s visit to Busan. In the video, Baby Shark will share its view of the world and participate in activities to save friends in peril due to climate change. The content aims to let the world know about Busan, a candidate city for the Expo. Also in the video, Busan’s Seagull Boogi, widely loved as Busan’s communication mascot, unexpectedly appears to save friends in peril through cooperation with Baby Shark.
The city wants to let the world’s future generations more easily and interestingly know about the 2030 Expo candidate city of Busan and the human/nature co-existence project, which includes responses to climate change and the realization of a sustainable society in harmony with nature, all pursuits of the 2030 World Expo in Busan. All videos will be produced in English for global fans and will be posted on The Pinkfong Company’s official YouTube channel.
In line with the release of the teaser video, together with The PinkFong Company, Busan also created a large photo zone containing sculptures of Baby Shark and Boogi and Busan’s colorful and diverse images at the international departure gate at Gimhae International Airport. This will be able to help people leaving Busan keep the Expo candidate city of Busan’s fascinating image as a lasting memory when they depart.
Busan’s Mayor Park commented, “During the preparations for the BIE Enquiry Mission’s due diligence visit, scheduled from April 2 to April 7, we are expecting to elevate global interest in Busan to let people know about the Korean people’s aspiration to attract the Expo and to greatly help support the bid for the Expo in Busan. We thank the global super star, Baby Shark, for joining us as an honorary ambassador for the Expo.”
He emphasized, “We will put all our effort into winning the bid for the 2030 Expo in Busan, both during the fourth official presentation on June 4 and the final host venue selection vote in November.” The mayor added, “I cordially ask for the continuous cheers and support of all Korean citizens with a unified heart for our efforts to bring the Expo to Busan.”
