The 2030 Busan World Expo Night of Light will be held on April 6
The city of Busan has recently announced that the 2030 Busan World Expo Night of Light, an event to express Busan’s aspirations and willingness to bid for the Expo to be hosted in Busan, will be held from 19:30 to 21:00 at Gwangalli Beach on April 6.
The event aims to highlight Busan’s excellence and large-scale event hosting competence as a way to enhance its bid for the Expo in line with the BIE (Bureau of International Expositions) Enquiry Mission visit. The event is meant to differentiate Busan from competing bidders by showcasing national interest and support while simultaneously drawing attention to Busan’s fascinating features. As many citizens are expected to attend the event and its activities, it is anticipated to play a pivotal role in promoting Busan’s passion to attract the Expo.
The 2030 BUSAN WORLD EXPO NIGHT OF LIGHT will be held at Gwangalli Beach only, unlike the existing Busan Fireworks Festival that is held in three places: Gwangalli Beach, Haeundae Beach and Nam-gu. What also makes this event different is the video narration that will convey messages through music and animated drawings to attract the Expo to Busan, a mega-scale fireworks display not seen outside Busan, and a large “2030 Busan Expo” light performance that includes a multimedia presentation combining the Gwangan Bridge lighting and fireworks systems.
There will also be pre-event programs, such as the Fireworks Talk Show, a congratulatory performance, and a countdown to wish for the success of Busan’s Expo bid, along with the main event, the 2030 BUSAN WORLD EXPO NIGHT OF LIGHT, in that order.
The main event, the Fireworks Show (20:30 ~ 21:00) will present colorful fireworks for 30 minutes under the theme “K-Wave”, which expresses Korea’s passionate, wave-like aspiration and will. It is also meant to symbolize how the city of Busan can move the world like waves move the seas. Starting with the major Niagara-influenced fireworks, made especially beautiful with Gwangandaegyo Bridge as a backdrop, the spectacle and accompanying narration will demonstrate to the BIE Enquiry Mission national cooperation and the collective effort to bid for the Expo, while also highlighting Busan’s unique charms and attractions.
The Mayor of Busan, Park Heong-joon, asks for citizens’ interest and participation. He said, “Busan is already prepared to hold large world-class international events, and its citizen’s cheers and support will be an enormous help in our bid for the Expo. I hope citizens come to the event to provide more enthusiasm to attract the 2030 World Expo to Busan.” He added, “Korea’s authenticity and passion to attract the Expo is much stronger than any other competitor’s thanks to the collaboration of the capable One Team Korea, namely the city of Busan, the national government, and corporations. We will do our very best to succeed in our bid to win the deciding vote to host the World Expo 2030 in Busan in November.”
Busan will implement and enforce traffic controls from April 2 to ensure a smooth festival. Lanes in both directions on Gwangandaegyo Bridge will be partially limited from April 2 to April 7 in order to set up and remove structures, lights, and fireworks. On the day of the event, April 6, Busan will place traffic controls on Gwangandaegyo Bridge’s upper deck (towards Nam-gu) from 15:30, and the lower deck (towards Haeundae) from 18:30.
Traffic controls will also be in place on roads around the Gwangalli event venue. As the fireworks event will be held on a weekday, the driving restrictions system based on odd and even-numbered vehicle license plates will be used and public transportation will be actively controlled, while pre-guidance is planned to be widely promoted.
