The city of Busan has announced the best of the city’s administrative achievements that have led to Busan’s growth and the happiness of citizens for the year according to public survey results through the city of Busan’s website and journalists’ opinions.
Thirteen city administrative achievements in 2022 were selected in four areas: future vision, citizen happiness, resolution of current issues, and city brand.
Future Vision
▲ Acceleration of the city’s bid for World Expo 2030, with local due diligence and a final decision scheduled for year 2023, and in recognition of Busan’s competitiveness as evidenced by the city’s presentations on three occasions.
▲ Early construction of Gadeokdo New Airport propelled by the speeding up of construction through the use of a preliminary feasibility study exemption, with the aim of opening early before the start of the 2030 World Expo.
▲ Approval of the preliminary feasibility study for the second phase of the North Port redevelopment project. Busan North Port contains key infrastructure to secure the city’s competitiveness in its bid for World Expo 2030 and is a center of the new global maritime industry.
▲ Promotion of the relocation of the Korea Development Bank to Busan, a driving force for Busan to take off as a global financial hub city.
▲ Attraction of 3 trillion KRW of business investments, the largest in the history of Busan.
City Brand
▲ Accomplishment of the 22nd rank in the world and top rank in Korea for Busan’s smart city capabilities through its successful leap towards becoming a digital-oriented economy.
▲ Being selected as one of the top 25 breathtaking places and experiences for 2023 by National Geographic. Citizen Happiness
▲ Construction of innovative infrastructure to take off as a public transportation-centered city and the opening of the BRT system from Seomyeon to Sasang
▲ Launching of the YOLO Galmetgil walking paths to transform Busan into a world-class city for walking
▲ Adoption of successive discounts on toll roads to greatly reduce transportation expenses incurred by Busan citizens.
Resolution of Current Issues
▲ The securing of Saengbok landfill, which is a model example of solving a long desired task after 30 years and one which can become a benchmark for a permanent and flexible resource circulation system.
▲ Confirmation of the metro line from Hadan to Noksan as part of the national commercialization effort to solve chronic traffic jams in the west Busan region and to improve accessibility to the Gadeokdo New Airport.
▲ Reflecting Busan’s nine major outstanding business issues in the government’s agenda.
Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon commented on the achievements by saying, “The year 2022 was the year we laid the foundation to expand upon a wave of innovation that occurred in Busan and beyond across Korea.” He added, “We will further develop citizen-oriented policies and all of us will strive to achieve better results for key industries on which Busan’s future relies.” He also remarked, “I wish to thank the citizens of Busan who have paid attention to our city’s administration, and I will try to make “Busan, Your Home for Today and Beyond”, by communicating with citizens more often.”
