The Busan Metropolitan City government has announced the opening of the 2030 World EXPO Promotional Space inside of Busan Dream Space on the 1st floor of the city hall from the 2nd of January.
This Promotional Space is to provide interesting opportunities for children to adults to understand and experience the World EXPO that the Korean bid team is gearing up to host.
Upon entering, visitors first see a back wall at the entrance decorated with the handwritten autographs of the world famous boy band BTS, who are also honorary ambassadors for World EXPO 2030 Busan, Korea. The 2.8-meter long and 6.4-meter wide back wall is made of tempered glass. The members of BTS provided their signatures during their appointment ceremony to become honorary ambassadors for World EXPO 2030 Busan, Korea, which took place on the 19th of July, 2022. Visitors can write their own signatures next to BTS’s autographs and become honorary ambassadors just like the boy band!
Once visitors pass through the entrance they will enter into a ‘time machine’ that will travel through time from the very first World EXPO to the 2030 Expo. While traveling in the time machine, visitors will learn about the 2030 World EXPO in Busan. The themes and sub-themes of the 2030 Busan World EXPO, as well as its purpose, are displayed using state-of-the-art infographics so that anyone can easily grasp and understand them. Honorary Ambassador, actor LEE Jung-jae also acts as a guide.
Once visitors have learned a bit about the Expo the doors of the time machine will open up and a 3D graphic immersive video will begin on a 14-meter wide and 4.2-meter long 173-degree curved wide panoramic screen.
Visitors will be shown two immersive video clips. The first video runs 30 to 40 seconds and displays the logos of 2030 World EXPO Busan, Korea, embodying humanity, cooperation, harmony and innovation through media art. A 4 and half minute clip follows, taking visitors on a journey through the first World Expo in London in 1851 to the 2030 Busan World Expo. After the clips, visitors can also watch additional short clips providing further information.
The Promotional Space is slated to be open for 365 days throughout the year (Weekdays: 09:00~18:00, Weekends: 10:00~17:00, *weekends: every 30 minutes) from the 2nd of January so that citizens can visit and enjoy the content any time. Weekday programs are for group visits, while weekends are free for anybody to come and enjoy.
The Promotional Space has also prepared a special program for upper grade elementary school students. Students will take a simple quiz and can receive a small gift. The city government hopes to provide ample opportunities for future generations to broaden their horizons while enjoying learning about the values of the 2030 Busan World Expo.
Mayor Park Heong-joon said “visitors will vividly glimpse and experience past World Expos that once could only be seen through black and white pictures while learning how the World Expo has progressed throughout the centuries.” He also added that “not least, people will clearly understand why the Republic of Korea, and especially Busan, should host the Expo. The Promotional Space will provide all visitors with a special opportunity to experience the 2030 Busan World Expo beforehand.
