Busan Becomes the Hometown of Pinkfong's Baby Shark Family.


Busan has become the hometown of Pinkfong baby sharks, beloved by people worldwide.


The City of Busan signed a business agreement to promote the ‘Busan Hometown Project of Baby Sharks’ on the afternoon of July 27. The city announced plans to inform people about the "Global Tourism City Busan" with assistance from the internationally-known characters from the "Baby Shark" song.


The business agreement is a result of the business diversification strategy of The Pinkfong Company and Busan's IP-based industrial ecosystem efforts.


The Pinkfong Company has recently expanded its offline IP business, including Baby Sharks. Busan has been constructing a global IP cluster and engaging in promotional activities to attract the 2030 Busan World Expo. Busan and The Pinkfong Company will vigorously cooperate in cementing the international tourism city of Busan's identity, including the attraction of the World Expo.


Through the agreement, the Baby Sharks, Korea's leading global IP, corresponding to the BTS (Bangtan Boys) of toddlers worldwide with over 10 billion YouTube cumulative clicks, have set Busan as their hometown. They will perform various activities to let people around the world know about their hometown of Busan.


Busan and The Pinkfong Company will utilize Baby Shark to collaboratively promote the following: a storytelling business, tourism PR and marketing, tourism infrastructure, and businesses to help attract World Expo 2030 Busan.


The city expects that efforts to attract the World Expo will be significantly boosted by familiarity with the worldwide musical phenomenon. In earnest, the joint effort will seek to actively promote and perform diverse PR activities.


Pinkfong Baby Sharks are global IP content revealing the following statistics: accumulative 11 billion clicks (No. 1) on YouTube worldwide and cumulatively 100 million subscribers released in 164 countries with approximately 1,000 licensing contracts globally


Lee Seung-gyu, Vice President and co-founder of The Pinkfong Company, who attended the agreement signing ceremony, mentioned, "We are diversifying character distribution channels ranging from Youtube and movie animation series to sound, source, license, and performance businesses. As part of the growth strategy, we are promoting the Busan Hometown Project of Baby Sharks" in partnership with the city of Busan."


He added, "With the decision that the Baby Sharks were born in Busan, a hub of cultural content and Korea's leading marine city, we seek to invigorate Busan's status as a tourism city focusing on establishing content and storytelling aspects. To this end, The Pinkfong Company will help reinforce Korea's global strengths."


Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, "I wish to deliver my heartfelt thanks to The Pinkfong Company, creator of the most successful global IP content "Baby Shark", for choosing Busan, an international tourism city, as their hometown and for having faith in the city's potential." He also remarked, "Busan will foster the relationship ensuring the presence of the Baby Shark characters are felt citywide both on and offline.”


Busan has recently been focusing its efforts on the development of a global IP-based leisure business cluster, a plan to construct family-friendly experience facilities, English educational facilities, family-friendly IP hotels and resorts, and shaping the IP-based industrial ecosystem, including souvenir manufacturing through cooperation with local startups" Busan City Hall states, "we will do our best to create tangible results in shaping the ecosystem through the project."
