BTS Officially Appointed as Honorary Ambassadors for World Expo 2030 Busan, Korea

The City of Busan announced that it has appointed K-pop (Korean pop music) group BTS as honorary ambassadors for the 2030 Busan World Expo on July 19, 2022.
The honorary ambassador appointment ceremony, co-hosted by the Bid Committee for World Expo 2030 Busan and Busan Metropolitan City took place on July 19, 2022 at HYBE Corporation.
The ceremony was attended by BTS and the committee‘s co-chairs: Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Chey Tae-won, Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon and HYBE CEO Park Ji-won.
Prior to the ceremony, the City of Busan signed an MoU with HYBE Corporation on June 24, 2022 to support Busan’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo.
Taking up ambassadorial roles, BTS is scheduled to hold a massive global concert in Busan in October in support of Busan’s bid for the 2030 World Expo. The concert will be broadcast live worldwide to promote Busan as the host candidate for the Expo and win wider support from home and abroad.
As well, BTS is poised to participate in various promotional activities at home and abroad. They will promote the 2030 Busan World Expo during presentations of World Expo 2030 candidate cities at the BIE General Assembly, guide on-site BIE inspection teams, and conduct PR activities with BIE’s member countries.
BTS has grown into a global icon beyond Korea, with its growing global influence resulting in the group delivering a speech at the United Nations, as well as encouraging youth and expressing hope in future generations. As a result, BTS’s positive influence stretches far beyond music.
Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon said, “We expect that BTS as honorary ambassadors for the 2030 Busan World Expo will take on the most pivotal role by dramatically increasing public interest and support for Busan’s bid for the 2030 World Expo, as well as increase support from Korean citizens as well as the global community. With the support of BTS, the Korean government, and our people, we will be able to achieve our goal.”
