Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon Promotes Busan’s Bid for the 2030 World Expo at Dubai Expo

On the occasion of Korea National Day at the Dubai Expo, a Busan representative delegation led by Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon and the Chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce & Industry Jang In-hwa visited the Dubai Expo over three days from January 15 to 17, 2022 to promote Busan’s bid for the 2030 World Expo jointly with a Korean government delegation.
On the first day of their visit, the Busan delegation met Isao Ando, Pavilion Director and Deputy Commissioner General of the Japanese section and related officials from the Japanese association for the 2025 World Exposition to listen to their experiences of attracting and preparing for Expo 2025 Osaka. In addition, the delegation visited the USA pavilion and Angola pavilion and emphasized Busan's campaign to bid for the 2030 World Expo.
To plan for the 2030 World Expo in Busan, the delegation visited the Dubai Mall, DP World Pavilion, the Republic of Korea pavilion at the Mobility Zone and many more places at the 2020 Dubai Expo.
The two media art videos (The Panoramic-해운대, WAVE of a’strict) on display at the Dubai Mall from last December to this February are helping to play a big role to deeply imprint Busan’s city brand and Busan’s bid for the 2030 World Expo on people from around the World.
On the second day, President Moon Jae-in, the Korean government delegation and Busan representative delegation attended a Korea National Day event. The event began with an official speech from President Moon and featured Korean cultural performances and a K-pop concert. President Moon promoted Busan as the host city of the 2030 World Expo while on his visit to Expo 2020 Dubai.
As a special performance on Korea National Day, the Busan Metropolitan Dance Company performed a well-received Korean traditional dance 부산본색’ to help increase support for Busan to host the 2030 World Expo.
On the final day of the 17th, Busan Mayor Park visited the Korea Innovation Fair 2020 and 2030 World Expo Busan promotion booth in DEC (Dubai Exhibition Centre) with President Moon to encourage Korean companies and promote Busan as the host city of the 2030 World Expo. At the fair, about 70 innovative companies representing Korea, such as Hyundai Motors, Samsung Electronics as well as many innovative small and medium-sized enterprises showcased their products.
As well, Jeon Joo-yeon and Chu Kyoung-ha, world barista champions, brewed Busan coffee for visitors from around the world at the Dubai Expo to help promote Busan.
An all-out effort was made to promote the Busan city brand and the ROK's bid to host the World Expo 2030 at the 2020 Dubai Expo.
