A media art installation promoting the 2030 Busan World Expo is on display on an ultra-large screen in Dubai, where the 2020 World Expo is currently taking place.
The city of Busan said it has been playing promotional videos under the theme, “The wave from Busan, Korea” on the world's largest OLED screen, measuring 50 meters wide and 14 meters long, which it installed at the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo in the Dubai Mall on December 5, 2021. The Dubai Mall is one of the largest shopping malls in the world, the size of 200 soccer fields, with 80 million visitors annually.
On the occasion of Korea National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai, two media art videos are on display from December 5, 2021 to February 4, 2022 as per the following schedule.
‘The Panoramic-해운대’ by Lee Sang-won Korean postwar & contemporary artist: December 5, 2021 to January 4, 2022 - The video showcases Busan’s landmark beach, Haeundae, and Korean traditional ink painting. Viewers can feel the new wave from Busan through the video.

‘WAVE’ of a'strict, the media artist unit by the acclaimed digital design company d'strict: January 5, 2022 to February 4, 2022
- The public media art project titled ‘WAVE’, is an immersive video art installation that replicates a massive wave crashing onto a large-scale wrap-around LED display. Employing anamorphic illusions, a type of projection technique used to highlight the illusion of depth and three-dimensionality, d'strict transformed the flat exteriors of the screen into a self-contained space unveiling a constant rush of massive waves.
The two promotional videos with the theme, “The wave from Busan, Korea” contribute immensely to promote Busan’s city brand in Dubai and deeply imprints Busan into the minds’ of influential people visiting the Dubai Mall from around the world.
The city will actively promote Busan’s bid for the 2030 World Expo overseas. The host city for the 2030 World Expo is set to be announced in November 2023.
