In line with a revision to the Road Traffic Act, drivers are banned from parking and idling in all 899 children protection zones in Busan beginning October 21, 2021. From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Drivers violating parking and stopping rules in school zone will face a fine of 120,000 won.

The City of Busan, autonomous gu/gun districts and the police will jointly crackdown on illegal parking or stopping in school zones across Busan.

In addition, the city plans to install 420 surveillance cameras around the school zones until 2023 to stop illegal parking in stages and build public parking lots for citizens’ convenience.

There will be some exceptions to the rule in areas designated by local police as student pick-up and drop-off zones.

Under the law, the area within a 300-meter radius from the main gate of an elementary school is designated as a children protection zone. Last year, the speed limit was lowered to 30 kilometers per hour in all school zones across the country.
