The City of Busan has announced that it will host the "Lights On! Busan-Rio de Janeiro” on the occasion of the 36-year sister city relationship between the two cities.

The city is hosting the event to strength ties between sister and friendship cities to get over the limitations on face-to-face exchanges by expanding sustainable untact exchanges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rio de Janeiro is located in the southeast of Brazil and home to one of the most beautiful ports in the world. Busan and Rio de Janeiro established a sisterhood relationship on September 23, 1985.

To celebrate the relationship between Busan and Rio de Janeiro, the lights of Busan's landmarks, including Gwangandaegyo, Busan Cinema Center and Busan Tower, were changed to Rio de Janeiro’s representative color, while Arcos da Lapa, Monumento a Estácio de Sá in Rio de Janeiro turned blue, the color of Busan, on September 23, 2021.

The event has also taken place with Sky Tower in Auckland in April, Lover River in Kaohsiung in June and is scheduled to be held with the Dubai Frame in November and Sapporo TV Tower Hokkaido, Japan in December.
