FACE MASK REGULATION : What type of face mask is appropriate and when to use Wearing a face mask is required to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to help protect yourself and others. You must wear a face mask in the following settings: Indoors Face masks must be worn anytime in indoor public spaces. Outdoors Face masks must be worn regardless of distancing rules when you are in crowded situations such as rallies, concerts, and events. Face masks must be worn when you cannot keep a 2m distance from others. Tips for wearing a face mask How to wear a face mask properly It is important that your entire mouth and nose is covered, with no no gaps between your face and the face mask ※ Not wearing a face mask and not completely covering your entrie mouth and nose are regarded as a violation of the regulations Types of face mask you can wear Respirator masks (KF94, KF80, etc.), anti-droplet masks(KF-AD) or surgical masks Fabric/cotton masks that cover your mouth and nose, and disposable masks ※ Covering your face with a mesh-type mask, a valve-type maska, scarf, and other pieces of clothing is regarded as a violatioonf rules.

How much is the fine? For violators Those not wearing a face mask or not wearing it properly will be subject to a maximum fines of up to KRW 100,000, for each violation. For managers and operators of facilities and places Those who fail to fulfill the management duties of notifying and providing COVID-19 preventative guidelines will be subject to a maximum fine of 3 million KRW. *KRW 1.5 million for the first-time violators and KRW 3 million for the second-time violators Note that local governments may apply different rules in imposing fines on places! If you fall into any of the cases below, please take caution when wearing a face mask! Infants and babies aged less than 24 months ※ Parents also need to keep on eyes on their children age over 24 months who are wearing face mask, considering difference of stage of development. Those who have difficulty in breathing in a face mask ※ If you have difficulty in breathing with a face mask on, you must take it off immediately and take a rest in an isolated place. Those who cannot wear or take off a face mask by themselves Children age under 14 are exempted from fines in accordance with the Act on「 The Regulation of Violations of Public Order」. Those who has difficulty in breathing with masks on (due to a respiratory disease, etc.) may also be exempted by submitting the medical certificate or a doctor s letter of opinion.
