The City of Busan launched a taxi service for those with COVID-19 symptoms, a first of its kind in the nation, on February 22, 2021. The Busan-based Tomato Taxi will provide the service.

According to KCDA guidelines, if it is absolutely necessary, a person with COVID-19 symptoms should call an ambulance to get to a community health center for a COVID-19 test, otherwise they should drive her/himself or walk to a community health center. However, those who are unable to drive or walk to a center have been experiencing inconveniences.

To assist, the city has decided to introduce a taxi service to allow its citizens without their own car to receive COVID-19 checks more conveniently.

Tomato Taxi does not expect its taxi service to make much profit from the service, but still insisted on introducing it as a means to cooperate with the city government’s virus control efforts.

The taxi service will operate using only designated vehicles and drivers from Tomato Taxi in compliance with quarantine guidelines. The designated taxies are installed with plastic dividers to block droplets and equipped with hand sanitizer and face masks.

To use Tomato Taxi, call 1668-1982 or use the company’s mobile application to make a reservation. The mobile reservation is available 24 hours a day.

The taxi fare is the same as a regular taxi fare. The service allows customers to use the same taxi to return home after getting a COVID-19 test at a community health center without incurring a waiting charge.
