The city of Busan has begun operating “Health Donation Stairs” in Sajik Station, Metro Line 3 starting on November 11, 2020.
The “Health Donation Stairs” are a social contribution project, which accumulates 10 KRW for each person using the stairs, which are equipped with sensors to monitor usage. Donations are made through corporate sponsorships and citizen participation. The project has contributed to the spreading of a donation culture in daily life.
The “Health Donation Stairs” are currently operating in three metro stations in Busan - Kyungsung Univ.〮Pukyong Nat’l Univ. station, Nampo Station and Sasang Station. The Health Donation Stairs in Sajik Station are the fourth set of stairs to be installed. The Busan Transportation Corporation provides the space and the Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation financially supports the cost of installation.
The funds collected through the “Health Donation Stairs” installed at Sajik Station will be donated to Child Fund Korea to help sick children of low income families.
People using the “Health Donation Stairs” at Sajik Station can naturally take part in the donation campaign while also taking care of their health. Sajik Station experiences high foot traffic so the city expects the campaign will help expand public health and instill a sharing culture in the city.
