The City of Busan has announced an agreement to mutually collaborate with the International Esports Federation (IeSF) on Esports development after a meeting between Busan Mayor Oh Geo-don and IeSF president Colin Webster on June 18 at Busan City Hall.
Founded in 2008, the IeSF is a global organization to promote Esports. Its headquarters was relocated to Busan in 2017 to target the global Esports market. The IeSF has launched a five-year development plan for a Global Esports R&D Center to support Esports researchers in 2018 with the support of Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Information Promotion Agency. The R&D Center will focus on three pillars of Esports, an academic research center, an international training center and an international referee academy.
The City of Busan, the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency and IeSF will jointly host the 4th Global Esports Executive Summit (GEES) at Paradise Hotel Busan in Haeundae from August 29 to August 31, 2019.
Since 2016, GEES has been a platform to share ideas, create synergies, and most of all, to reach mutual consensus regarding Esports development.
The GEES 2019 takes place in Busan for the third consecutive year and brings the combined knowledge, experience and ideas from all key Esports stakeholders to the fore. GEES 2019 will continue to enhance dialogue between Esports stakeholders, and openly discuss various issues in Esports. GEES 2019 will also continue its integration with the Esports Academic Seminar as a parallel program, sharing the latest academic research in the Esports industry.
