The City of Busan announced a pilot program, under which 270 local buses equipped with Wi-Fi was brought into service beginning on March 26, 2019.
The city plans to implement free public Wi-Fi hotspots on a total 2,517 local buses as part of its “Free Wi-Fi Busan” project, a result of signing an agreement with the Ministry of Science and ICT.
After the pilot program, running until the end of April, the free Wi-Fi service on 270 local buses will officially begin in May. The additional 2,247 local buses will be equipped with Wi-Fi during the second half of the year.
The local bus numbers for the pilot program are 58-1, 221, 1000, 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005, 1006, 1008, 1009, 1010, 1011, 2000, 10, 33, and 103.
The free Wi-Fi service on local buses will reduce bus passengers’ data usage on their mobile phones and be utilized as tourism infrastructure.
To use the free public Wi-Fi network on local buses, select ‘Public WiFi@BUS’ from the list of wireless networks on your mobile phone.
