The
City of Busan has announced that it has completed its Green Line Park project
to build a 6 kilometer open green space from Hamajeong Sageori (intersection)
to Weondonggyo bridge. The city has built public rest areas with walkways and
greenery under the Donghae Nambu Line’s elevated tracks.
The
project broke ground in December 2016, with an agreement between the City of
Busan and the Korea Rail Network Authority. The 2.8 kilometer long Dongnae
section between Oncheoncheon Railroad Bridge and Weondonggyo bridge in
Dongnae-gu, was completed in December 2017. With the completion of the 3.2
kilometer long Yeonje section between Hamajeong Sageori and Busan Nat'l Univ.
of Edu. Station in November 2018, urban greenery walkways were established along
all sections in the area.
The
new Green Line Park has a variety of themed areas for members of the community
to walk through and rest in. The themed rest areas will offer green walkways with
blooming flowers and various small creatures for people to explore and enjoy.
Convenient
amenities, including pergolas, benches, information boards and exercise equipment
have been installed along the walkways. For the safety of visitors, street
lights and surveillance cameras have also been installed.
The
retired Oncheoncheon railway bridge reopened to the public after a safety
inspection was conducted to deem it safe for strolling. In addition, night time
illumination of the area and a photo zone will attract visitors.
The
city will make its best efforts to follow through on creating, “Walkable City,
Busan.”
