The
City of Busan has announced that its ‘Clean Energy School’ Project won the champion
award at the Green Apple Awards.
The
Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and are run by The Green Organization – an
independent, non-governmental, non-profit, environmental group dedicated to
recognizing, rewarding and promoting environmental best practices around the
world. The awards are recognized by the EU Commission and the Environment Agency
in UK. Each category includes a green champion, gold, silver and bronze award.
The
‘Clean Energy School’ Project, which is jointly promoted by Busan Metropolitan
City, the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, the Korea Energy Agency
and the Busan Climate & Environment Network, seeks to introduce
photovoltaic power generation systems to 100 elementary, middle and high
schools in Busan over five years from 2018 to 2022 to achieve energy
self-sufficiency in the schools. The project will help students learn about and
experience energy production and saving, and to practice what they learn from
the project in their daily lives.
The
city expects the award-winning ‘Clean Energy School’ Project will pave the way
for an increased awareness of new & renewable energy to the public, and encourage
public participation, including future generations, in new & renewable
energy policies.
