Mobility Award at the World Smart City Awards 2018

The Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) 2018, the leading international event on smart cities and smart urban solutions, took place from November 13 to November 15 in Barcelona, Spain. This year’s exhibition had attendance from over 700 cities from 146 countries, 844 exhibitors and 400 speakers. Busan Metropolitan City participated in the SCEWC 2018, along with the Busan Center for a Creative Economy & Innovation and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency. The city set up a pavilion to showcase its smart city initiatives and IoT living lab project at the exhibition.

The World Smart City Awards 2018, organized by the Smart City Expo World Congress, selected finalists from 473 entries from 75 countries around the world. The awards rewarded pioneering projects, ideas and strategies that promote sustainable urban development around the globe in 7 categories - city, innovative idea, digital transformation, urban environment, mobility, governance & finance, and inclusion & sharing.

Busan Metropolitan City won the mobility award at the World Smart City Awards 2018 with its Smart Intersections project (traffic data collection & analysis, alternative route information services). The city’s Smart Intersections project collects traffic data in real time and analyzes the level of traffic congestion across the city by using deep learning algorithms.

The project has drawn attention from participating cities around the world with heavy traffic congestion issues in their own countries.

Busan’s smart city project will be applied, not only to transportation, but also to all sectors of city administration to develop best practices to share around the world.
