The 82nd International Electrotechnical Commission General Meeting
Smart cities and sustainable societies
The
82nd IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) General Meeting will be
held at BEXCO from October 22, 2018 (Mon) to October 26, 2018 (Fri). The
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the International Standard
Organization that develops and distributes all international standards in the
field of electricity, electronics, and relevant technologies. Our home country,
South Korea, became a member of the IEC in 1963. The IEC general meeting will
be held again in our home country in Busan. This year marks the second time in 14
years since South Korea hosted a previous IEC general meeting in Seoul in 2004.
Three thousand delegates from 85 countries will participate and discuss major
agenda topics regarding the international standard.
The standards have improved the quality competitiveness
of domestic products and supported the technical innovation of export
enterprises. Since the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement (WTO/TBT), the
boundaries between countries have collapsed and the role of standards has
become more important in the global era.
In particular, participation in the
international standard is a requisite for companies in our country to cooperate
with global companies in the global market. In addition, participation in IEC
activities leads to the standardization of core technologies in the era of the
4th Industrial Revolution such as IoT, smart production, and city and energy
technologies, which further emphasizes its importance. The event will allow
domestic companies to participate in the international society and reinforce
their global competitiveness. Above all, the 82nd IEC General Meeting will be a
significant opportunity to solidify the position of Korea as the leading
country of electric and electronic technologies.
