The Busan Metropolitan City to Host Ceremony Commemorating the 65th Anniversary of the April 19 Revolution

The Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will hold a ceremony commemorating the 65th anniversary of the April 19 Revolution on Saturday, April 19 at 10:00 AM, in front of the April 19 Democratic Revolution Memorial Tower at Jungang Park.

The ceremony will be attended by April 19 Revolution merit awardees and their families, Mayor Park Heong-joon, Busan City Council Chairperson Ahn Sung-min, Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-jun, National Assembly Members Cho Seung-hwan, Kwak Kyu-taek, and Seo Ji-young, along with other key local officials and citizens, totaling around 100 participants.

The program will include:

• ●National ceremony and silent tribute

• ●Wreath-laying and incense offering

• ●A report on the progress of the April 19 movement

• ●A commemorative speech by the Mayor

• ●A tribute performance by the Busan City Dance Company

• ●A memorial choral performance by the Busan City Choir

In addition to the main ceremony, Busan will also host related events:

• ●April 18, 2:00 PM: A Memorial Service for the Victims of the April 19 Revolution at the Memorial Ossuary in Jungang Park

• ●April 19, Morning: A Tribute Ceremony for Martyr Kang Soo-young at his statue in front of Gyeongnam Technical High School

Mayor Park Heong-joon is expected to state:

“The April 19 Revolution was the first great step in our journey toward a mature democratic republic founded on the will of the people. Busan was at the forefront of this monumental history.
If we uphold the constitutional values of liberty and democracy protected by this revolution, I believe this time of crisis can become a time of opportunity and progress.”

He will continue:

“If all Busan citizens move forward with unity and confidence in the future, our vision of becoming a global hub city and a place where people would choose to live again will soon be a reality.
The Busan Metropolitan City will do its utmost to contribute to Korea’s new leap forward and will ensure that the spirit of the April 19 Revolution is clearly remembered and passed on to future generations.”
