Busan seeks international residents for new program
source: BGCFBusan City and the Busan Global City Foundation are recruiting participants for the first cohort of the Busan International Residents Connector program, which engages international residents to improve local policies.This newly launched initiative replaces the previous Busan Foreign Residents Representative Council. The revamped program offers a more practical platform for international residents to share their experiences, voice concerns, and suggest policy improvements, contributing to a more inclusive and livable city. Selected participants, referred to as “Connectors,” will create content tailored to international communities in various districts. The content will highlight local attractions and restaurants and provide valuable tips for living in the city. Their work will be featured as lifestyle and tourism content across Busan’s social media and online platforms, including the Life in Busan website, an information portal for international residents.Connectors will be compensated for their work, earn volunteer hours and receive performance-based extra benefits.Any international resident aged 18 or older who has lived in Korea for over 1 year or in Busan for more than 90 days is eligible to join the project. Applications will be accepted until April 23 through the BGCF’s website linked below. The Geumnyeonsan Youth Training Institute to Host Public Astronomy Observatory EventThe Geumnyeonsan Youth Training Institute is set to host a public astronomy observatory event to give people the opportunity to gaze at the stars. The observatory will be open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 7:30 p.m.-10 p.m. from February through November.※The schedule is subject to change as required for internal events or the city’s firework festival. Admission is free, excluding the planetarium.The observatory will run the following programs and activities:△ Observation of the stars and planets△ Learning about space science through pictures and videos△ An information session about the constellations△ An astronomy lectureVisitors can participate in the event without needing to make a reservation. For visitors’ convenience, most of the events, along with the astronomy observation experience, can be freely joined anytime between 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.A 53-seat planetarium equipped with a 9-meter dome screen and a state-of-the-art digital projection system will be used to present educational and entertaining shows about astronomy and the night sky throughout the year. The charge for admission to the planetarium is 2,000 won for children and youth, and 3,000 won for adults.Along with the observation of the moon, planets and stars, visitors can also enjoy a wonderful nightscape of the city.How to get there: Take Metro Line No. 2 to Geumnyeonsan Station then leave by Exit No. 6, or take Bus No. 20, 38, 39, 40, 51, 83, 83-1, 108, 131 or 155 and get off at Geumnyeonsan Youth Training Institute bus stop. Then walk up about 15 minutes.Paid parking is available.As successful astronomical observations depend on good weather, the observatory will be closed on cloudy or rainy nights.
