The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) Organizing Committee held a press conference on August 25th to announce this year’s official selections and event schedule.
The opening film of the 20th annual BIFF will be “Zubaan”, directed by Mozez Singh of India. The closing film will be “Mountain Cry”, directed by Chinese-American Larry Yang.
The 20th annual BIFF will be held October 1-10 in six theaters, including the Busan Cinema Center and theaters in Centum City, Haeundae and Nampo-dong. 304 films from 75 different countries have been invited to screen at the festival: 94 world premieres (70 feature films, 24 short films) and 27 international premieres (24 feature films, 3 short films).
Online ticket reservations for the opening and closing films will begin on September 22nd at 2:00 p.m. Reservations for other festival screenings will begin on September 24th at 10:00 a.m. online and at all Busan Bank locations. Tickets for the opening and closing films are 20,000 won and for other screenings 6,000 won.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, BIFF is presenting ‘Asian Cinema 100’ and ‘My French Cinema’ as the Special Programs in Focus. Ten French film classics will be presented under ‘My French Cinema’, with 9 films recommended by prominent French directors, actors, critics and festival organizers, who will also be present to introduce the films to festival audiences. This year’s Korean Cinema Retrospective program will reveal eight hidden masterpieces of the 1960s.
