Fifteen Newly Selected Unique Venues in Busan

□ Busan Metropolitan City, along with the Busan Tourism Organization, have endorsed fifteen ‘Unique Venues’ embracing the city’s charms and regional characteristics, with the aim of leaping forward to become a global meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition (MICE) industry city.

○ From June 26th to August 12th, 2024, we recruited Unique Venue candidates and determined winners after reviewing applications and conducting on-site assessments.

○ Since the end of the pandemic, amid worldwide competition to attract exhibitions, conferences, and meetings, we have sought different types of facilities that capture Busan's personality—beyond convention centers and hotels, as people tend to look for offbeat experiences in compelling places.

◦ What is a Unique Venue? A non-event-oriented place capable of demonstrating the authenticity of Busan with the capacity for accommodating MICE events (※ existing Unique Venues: 23)

□ Domoheon [previously, the Busan Open Event Center] and the Busan Modern & Contemporary History Museum have been recently remodeled. These updates have turned them into not only civic spaces, but also Unique Venues.

○ Domoheon, once the mayoral residence, and the Busan Modern & Contemporary History Museum, the former Bank of Korea Busan Main Office, hold historical significance as well.

○ Other Unique Venues include Haeundae Platform, which was formerly Haeundae Station; Running Man Busan and Taejongdae Ocean Flying Theme Park, which ensure a wide range of dynamic activities; the National Youth Ecology Center, Space Onez, and the Busan Museum of Movies, which are nestled in the old downtown and western Busan area.

□ Looking ahead, we will continue discovering new Unique Venues and marketing them in multifaceted ways to move Busan into a leading position within the MICE industry.

○ We will produce e-books, newsletters, and videos introducing Unique Venues.

○ We also plan to offer one-on-one consulting so that Busan’s Unique Venues will be able to become Korea's Unique Venues.

○ Through regular field surveys, we will find new Unique Venues and promote the strength of the old downtown and western Busan areas equipped with robust MICE infrastructure, which are on par with those found in eastern Busan.
