The Busan Metropolitan City has decided to provide relief funding totaling 100,000 dollars to Türkiye to help its people, who recently suffered from a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the country’s southern border area with Syria on February 6.

Türkiye and Korea have had a long relationship, as the country sent the fourth most troops to Korea during the Korean War, with four brigades totaling 21,212 soldiers. 1,005 Turkish soldiers were killed during the war and 462 of them are buried at the UN Memorial Cemetery in Busan.

Since 2002, Busan has been a sister city to Istanbul, Türkiye, pursuing friendship and cooperation.

Mayor Park Heong-joon said that Busan will work in solidarity to help with the restoration efforts for the Turkish people who have suffered, adding that he hopes to provide some comfort to victims of the disaster.

The city of Busan has been continuously making efforts to promote mutual cooperation and coexistence within the international community.
