Busan’s Push to Help the World Discover Leading Global Restaurants
The city of Busan has announced that “LAB24 by Kumuda” was selected as one of the world’s top 1,000 restaurants by the global gourmet food guide “LA LISTE 2023.”
This achievement of a Busan-based restaurant being selected by a global gourmet food evaluation company comes three months after Busan implemented a strategy to promote Busan as a global gourmet tourism city in September. Consequently, Busan has seen its efforts bear fruit to advanced one step further as a global gourmet food tourism city.
“LAB24 by Kumuda” is a fine dining restaurant that opened in January 2022 by Chef Edward Kwon in Songjeong, Busan. It has seen itself become one of the most difficult restaurants to make a reservation at in Busan, which has long been regarded as a city with little to no fine dining experiences.
LA LISTE is a gourmet food guide produced by Atout France (the French Tourism Development Agency) that offers gourmet food tourism information and has been released annually since 2015. The guide selects the top 1,000 restaurants around the world, with 36 Korean restaurants included in this year’s LA LISTE. LAB24 by Kumuda is the only restaurant located outside of Seoul in Busan.
A Busan official stated, “Gourmet foods have recently became a major reason for tourists to visit the city, and have become a new travel trend as one of the leading experiences.” He added, “With the opportunity provided by LAB24 being selected by LA LISTE, we will endeavor to make Busan a gourmet tourism city, comparable to other global gourmet cities.“
