The former US Army base Camp Hialeah, which was recently returned to the city of Busan after 100 years, will open to the public again from Saturday, April 24 at 10 a.m. through September 30, 2010. The opening hours are from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and visitors should arrive no later than 4 p.m.
There are two walking tours:
Tour A (requiring 1 and half hours)
Entrance → Former Ticket Office → Horse Racing Track → Headquarters → Soldiers’ Club → School → Theater → Entrance
Tour B (requiring 1 hour)
Entrance → Former Ticket Office → Horse Racing Track → Headquarters → Soldiers’ Club → Entrance
For the convenience and safety of visitors, an administration center is located at the entrance of the former Camp Hialeah and 8 volunteers will be assigned along the routes of Tour A and B. Two public toilets, in front of the camp entrance and by the soldiers' club, and three drinking water fountains have also been installed. Reservations for the tours are not required.
A city official of the Old Downtown Development Team said, “For the safety of visitors, please use the entrance of Camp Hialeah which is located in front of the National Center for Korean Traditional Arts in Busan. The handicapped or visiting groups are also allowed to use the parking lot located on the left side of the Camp Hialeah entrance, but others are required to use public transportation.”
