Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival to be held on February 24, 2013

On the day of the first full moon of the Lunar New Year, which falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month of the year, the Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival is held in order to pray for good health and good fortune in the coming year.


 

This year, the festival falls on Sunday, February 24, and a variety of events such as Daljip (Straw Heap) burning (the burning of large straw bonfires under the light of the moon), Jisin-balgi (stomping on the ground to comfort the god of the earth) and the performing of folk plays are being planned for a number of locations around Busan.


 

On the day of Jeongwol Daeboreum, the moon will rise at 4:50 p.m. Daljip burning, the main event of the Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival, will start in each region at the times mentioned below.

Dalmaji Oncheon (Hot Spring) Festival at Haeundae Beach, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. 

Haeundae-gu District will host the 31st Haeundae Dalmaji Oncheon Festival on Haeundae Beach on February 24.

Everything from Yutnori and Tuho to Jaegichagi and other t ypes of traditional Ko rean games will be available for visitors to try their hand at. There will also be an enormous daljip taeugi (in which participants burn objects in the shape of the moon) - which will be the highlight of the festival. Admission is free. (☎051-749-4062)
