The southern port city of Busan will host an annual convention of the Lions Clubs International in 2012.

Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik told reporters Friday that the volunteer service organization's executive board decided to hold its 2012 world assembly in the city.

The event will run from June 22nd to 26th, 2012 with 40-thousand people from 200 countries participating. The city expects to draw some 20-thousand foreign visitors during the convention period.

It will be the second time for Korea to host a Lions International Convention, following Seoul's hosting of the 78th edition in 1995. Other past Asian hosts include Tokyo, Osaka and Hong Kong. Next year’s convention is to be held in Bangkok.
