Seongjigok Reservoir with its dense cypress forest is the origin of Dongcheon. Since ancient times, it has been known as an ideal spot as well as a great water source discovered by a Joseon government official Seongji. It has been preserved almost in its original form including the catchment, storage, precipitation system and waterway toward a filter bed as Korea’s first stone pitching gravity dam. It was completed in the third year of Yunghi Emperor and is designated as Registered Cultural Property No. 376.
