The Wartime Capital Busan Citizen Academy is a participatory program aimed at promoting the cultural heritage that Busan preserved during the Korean War. The academy highlights Busan’s role as
the provisional capital for 1,023 days after the fall of Seoul, emphasizing the historical significance and value of this heritage.
The program fosters citizen engagement and consensus to
support the inscription of the Busan Wartime Capital heritage on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Through educational and promotional activities, including visits to nine key heritage sites and
lessons on the history of the wartime period, the program seeks to enhance public awareness and make the story of Busan's heritage more approachable and relatable to its citizens.
