Gudeok Sports Complex

Introduction

It was just a spacious, unoccupied ground next to a small zoo where residents used to gather together for village athletic meetings or annual events in June 1920. In September 1928, the Busan Public Ground was official created, which changed its name to Gudeok Main Stadium in June 1982. It is a historical place where students gave rise to the National Movement in November 1940, and the American army stationed itself there to recapture Seoul during the Korean War. It served as the main athletic public space in Busan until Sajik Main Stadium was completed in 1982. Gudeok Main Stadium holds an athletic field, baseball ground, indoor gym, swimming pool and other facilities, and was used as an auxiliary stadium for the 1988 Olympic Games and the main stadium in the 1997 East Asian Games. As a main venue for holding various kinds of sporting events, it holds an important position in Busan with its long history in Seo-gu. The main stadium is currently the home ground for the professional football club ‘Busan IPark’ and the Busan Transportation Cooperation semi-professional football team. As the result of the redevelopment project from 2017 to 2018, the sports park was newly built on the site of the previous Gudeok baseball ground and Gudeok gymnasium and opened to the public in March 2019. The Gudeok sports park consists of tennis courts, a futsal field, gateball court, multi-purpose court, basketball court and other convenient facilities for anyone to use.
