Poster Title: Cinema & Reality

We are pleased to unveil the official poster of the 41st Busan International Short Film Festival(BISFF)
The official poster for this year's Festival was designed in homage to the protagonist "Gelsomina" from the masterpiece <La Strada> by the Italian master Federico Fellini, while organizing Guest Country program focused on Italy. <La Strada> represents Federico Fellini's early neorealism tendencies, depicting the harsh reality of the working-class during and after World War II within the framework of neorealism, with Fellini's characteristic tragic elements reflected through the protagonist Gelsomina, who is deeply intertwined with the theme of this year's festival, "Cinema & Reality”.⠀
- Artist's Comment -
The film sometimes represent reality as it is, and sometimes unfolds a world we can’t even imagine, giving the audience a new impression and hope. The artist designed festival’s poster by making a parody of the main character Gelsomina in Federico Fellini’s 1957 film The Road (La Strada). Although the film has a tragic end, the author thinks that Gelsomina’s life may not have stayed in tragedy. Our reality is similar. Even though our lives have many hard and difficult moments, tragedy is not our only story. Instead, we gradually find a hope in the dark. There is a saying “We are not always happy, but happiness is always close.” Through this festival, the artist hopes that many people will find time to reflect on the logic of life and find happiness with their family, friends and lovers. In the poster, artist expressed a happy Gelsomina using cinematic imagination.
The artist Oh Jungseok, who created the poster, will present a live drawing performance using drones before the opening ceremony on April 25th, so please stay tuned for the exciting event!
